Around September 1930, Charles H. Biereley established his own undertaking business in the Dr. Joseph Upton Home on Tellico Street in Madisonville. The house was right behind the Monroe County Courthouse.

Mr. Biereley previously worked for J.S. Kyker & Sons Funeral Home for twelve years after graduating from the Gupton-Jones School of Embalming in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, he ran funeral homes in Lenoir City and Tellico Plains, Tennessee. In Lenoir City, James Harvey Hawkins began his career in funeral service with Mr. Biereley. Around 1936, he established Hawkins Mortuary in Lenoir City. C.H. Biereley, Jr. (Buster), the son of C.H. and Dorothy Biereley, attended Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee. He graduated from the Gupton-Jones School of Embalming in 1939. For many years, Buster ran a funeral home near Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee. It is no longer in existence.

Biereley Funeral Home was later purchased by John C. Hale and his son, Charles Douglas Hale. In 1952, the company's name was changed to Biereley-Hale Funeral Home. The Hale family expanded their operations in Tellico Plains and Madisonville. In April 1976, the new Tellico Plains chapel was dedicated. In June 1978, the new Madisonville chapel was dedicated. Buster Biereley passed away on May 7, 1952. Charles H. Biereley passed away on October 3, 1962. Dorothy Biereley passed away on July 10, 1972. John C. Hale passed away on October 2, 1986.
